Lookbook | The Blue Collection

The Blue Collection is one that I am immensely proud of.
Truly, it was the first collection that came to mind when I came up with this monthly collection concept for our new space and have had on the back burner, in-process, since our first Open House day in November.

Truth be told though— this collection has been in the works for years.

Something I really feel the need to emphasize because otherwise once you look at the following images— you might think that antique calico, or 1940s side zip jeans are a dime a dozen. But no—the bulk of this collection was found and saved over the course of many years, many trips, many house calls, and many friends keeping an eye out for us.

Which is of course my favorite part.
The slow burn.
The long-time collecting and learning and gradual piecing together.
The forever hunt of what could be just around the corner to hold and learn from.

Blue seems to be a soul color that we can all get behind on some level.

I have a friend who never has anything red in her shop, another who refuses to wear orange, yet another who almost exclusively decorates her home in beige tones. And yet blue seems to be the color we can all agree to love in at least one or more areas of our lives.
If not solely because of the all American staple garment— the blue jean— perhaps for some deeper connection relating to nature in the way of the sky or the ocean.
Regardless, this oh-so-sought-after shade was something I had hoarded and collected for many years in all shapes and forms, and this collection was such a joy to have an excuse to put all of these pieces together to showcase their beauty all at once.

Many of these pieces are from our archives, my personal collection, and things we have held onto for a very long time.
But if there is one thing this job has taught me, it’s that there is often more joy in sharing, and though I became quite attached to many of these textiles, objects and garments, the joy for me was getting to study and learn from these storied pieces for a time, take their portrait for posterities sake— and then let them go to become a part of someone else’s story.

So, without further ado, here is a small sampling of The Blue Collection.
Now fully on view at Folkling House and partially available in our web shop.
