1930s Ocean Waves Quilt
This 1930s Ocean Waves patterned quilt has some of the loveliest cheddar and blue cotton piecing. A coveted combo! Has flower and heart hand quilting that is truly stunning in and of itself.
It was actually hand pieced in the 1900s and then quilted in the 1930s (as per the original owners story).
Has velcro on the back (the soft side of velcro) from where it was formerly hung on a wall and a testament to it being preserved so beautifully.
The triangles in this Ocean Waves quilt are smaller than a lot of others seen in similar patterns.
Perfect to take with you on your next adventure or cozy up on a cold day at home.
D E T A I L S
The triangles are precisely hand pieced, and then joined by machine. Self quilted at 18-20 stitches per inch.
Stunning flower and heart hand quilting throughout.
This is some of the smallest and straightest stitching you will find in quilts from this era.
This Ocean Waves quilt is pieced so that there are smooth squares in the middle rather than other examples of this pattern that have 2-4 triangles pointing toward the center of each design group. This makes for a very graphic image, especially when viewed from a distance.
A nice light-medium weight quilt for the transition in seasons.
Measurements laid flat:
76” x 68”
C O N D I T I O N
In very useable condition. Has some spots and discoloring throughout, mostly from storage, that may come out with further spot treatment (ie: some good ol Palmolive and some sunshine!)
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
