1860s Pictorial Quilt

$1,200.00
sold out

The crown jewel of this collection. The first pictorial quilt to officially pass through our hands, these are incredibly rare and special to find. A true collectors piece and a delight to slowly look at and inspect. So many expertly hand appliquéd pieces to notice and enjoy.

The thought is that the imagery represents the things the makers would miss when moving away and the ring symbol in the center signifies their marriage before travel.

Small hand embroidered ‘A’ signature on one corner.

If you would like to see some other pictorial quilts and learn more about them you can see an especially remarkable one here.

How it’s made: machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted

Weight: light

Measurements laid flat: 75” x 85”

Shown on a standard Full size bed.

C O N D I T I O N
Original mends, exposed batting and fabric tearing throughout, no holes that go all the way through that we noticed. Some fading, bleached areas and spots of discoloration. Best used for display only especially due to the significance and rarity of this piece.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.

⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.

⋒ This find will ship to you within one week of purchasing. International and combined shipping is available, please contact us via instagram DM at @Folkling for a personalized shipping quote.
