1890s Courthouse Steps & Checkerboard Quilt
We do love a checkerboard anything around here… There is nothing like the satisfaction of two simple alternating colors creating a simple yet striking pattern.
The only thing that beats that is the fact that this quilt feels like two-in-one!
The one patch side is technically the back (featuring one corner double cinnamon pink calico block), and the front of this quilt is an intricately and strikingly pieced courthouse steps quilt!
Comprised of 90 blocks about 8.5" x 8.5", set straight 9 x 10. It is hand pieced on a cotton print fabric foundation, whip stitched together like a pot holder quilt. There is no batting and no quilting. The edge is finished with a brown print applied binding. Many early fabrics, including chintzes, turkey reds, Prussian blues, centennial greens, madders, and more.

How it’s made: Hand quilted, hand pieced
Weight: Light
Measurements laid flat: 74" x 82”

This beauty is in display only condition, best for a wall or other way of showcasing its artistry. Wear throughout, several small spots, wear across the center, fabric deterioration, holes and edge wear. Not suitable for every day use on a bed.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
