1880s Well Worn Layered Quilt
This is one from our personal collection.
A very special quilt indeed.
Did you know—Oftentimes, when a quilt was worn out and no longer usable, it would serve as batting for another quilt?
We love this practice. While often a necessity, and not something to be romanticized, it serves as a way of life to aspire to and emulate.
Nothing wasted.
Everything repurposed and used.
You can on occasion find quilts that have multiple quilt layers like this.
We unearthed this calico beauty from inside another feedsack quilt many years ago and thought the archival of work was so beautiful, even in its distressed state.
We have counted a total of four quilt layers with this one. It is a very special work of art to appreciate and deserves to be hung on a wall.
You cannot replicate or fake this kind of story and history.

Well-worn. This one has a story worth appreciating.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
⋒ This find will ship to you within one week of purchasing. International and combined shipping is available, please contact us via instagram DM at @Folkling for a personalized shipping quote.
