1880s Sawtooth Diamond In A Square Quilt

$458.00
sold out

This beautiful 1880s-1890s quilt has a lot of details that we love.

1. The heart quilting. Enough said.

2. The “superstition block” —see if you can spot it in the center. Possibly a legitimate mistake, but more likely an intentional flaw inserted by the maker whose belief could have aligned with many groups, such as the Amish, making quilts at the time that thought that only God could make something perfect.

3. The whole cloth calico back. A print we have never seen before and we just might love more than the front…

How it’s made: hand quilted, hand pieced

Weight: medium light

There is one approximately two inch tear that goes through all layers of the quilt. The front has a few tiny discoloration spots and a larger patch of darker discoloration, and fading and wear along edges and binding. The back has a few penny-sized holes through the backing fabric and smaller holes and wear at the corners.

Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.

⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.

⋒ This find will ship to you within one week of purchasing. International and combined shipping is available, please contact us via instagram DM at @Folkling for a personalized shipping quote.
