1870s Tulip Appliqué Quilt
This floral appliqué quilt was found in Georgia, we have kept this one in our personal archives for some time and it’s hard to let it go but it deserves to be loved and showcased more prominently.
An absolutely exquisite and unique example of an appliqué quilt. We have yet to come across another like it. The incredible intricate hand quilting on this quilt is jaw dropping, as are the soft tones of the vegetable dyed fabrics.
Hang this beauty in your hallway to give you the hope of springtime year-round.
D E T A I L S
How it’s made: machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted
Weight: light
Measurements laid flat: 71” x 81”
Shown on a standard Full size bed.
C O N D I T I O N
Still in usable condition but we think its best used as a display piece to preserve it. Wear to most, if not all, the red fabric of the flower appliqué in the form of exposed batting and even missing red fabric. Spots of discoloration on the front that follow fold lines from previous storage methods along with faint discoloration throughout on the back also from previous storage.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
