1860s Cock's Comb Appliqué Quilt
A wonderful example of vegetable dyed appliqué patchwork with extremely intricately quilted details.
Appliqué quilts are some of our dearest favorites when it comes to older quilts and this one is on the list for our top ten for sure.
A work of art meant to be displayed for all to see.
D E T A I L S
How it’s made: hand quilted and hand appliquéd with machine stitched binding
Weight: light
Measurements laid flat: 70” x 72”
Shown on a standard Full size bed.
C O N D I T I O N
Fading to a majority of the quilt with the exception of one block that has maintained most of its color due to the way it was stored or the cotton used. A lot of the appliqué patches have wear due to the dye used at the time. A few spots of discoloration here and there but still in wonderful useable condition though best for display to maintain the overall integrity.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
