1860s Ocean Waves Quilt
This 1860 Ocean Waves patterned quilt is a very graphic and superbly made quilt. .
May have started out mostly browns -The 1870’s and 1880’s are known as “The Brown Years” to historic textile experts. Browns typically fade or “mute out” to various shades of pink, purple or rose.
Early brown dyes used iron oxide, which cause the fabric to deteriorate when exposed to the air. The dye salts eat away at the fabric.
It is incredible condition for its age.
A smaller quilt but would look just lovely folded at the end of your bed or in your collection in a cupboard.
From the Gwynne-Vaughan family who moved from the East to the Branson, Missouri area in the 1940’s.

Beautifully hand pieced and hand quilted with incredibly floral quilting designs.
A nice light weight quilt for the transition in seasons.
Measurements laid flat:
80” x 58”
Shown here on a standard Full size bed.

In very gorgeous useable condition. Has some wear to the expected brown fabrics from this time, and has had a few of the pieces mended and replaced with 1930s feed sack fabric. A few spots and discoloring throughout, mostly from storage.
Pink, light brown, dark brown calico triangles are hand pieced around white, extensively quilted blocks. Newer pink binding. Hand pieced, hand quilted in feathers, cross-hatch, diagonal, and small circles at 16-18 stitches per inch in small even stitches. Truly exceptional quilting.
Most importantly: Please do not cut this quilt for a coat or other project my friends. It is too beautiful and in gorgeous condition and a work of art in and of itself. It would be tragic to cut up such a beautiful piece of textile history.
⋒ This is an antique piece, all photos have been taken in natural light and with limited editing to reflect its condition. Please keep in mind all antique pieces have little imperfections and reflect the story and charm of the piece.
